Icons of intellect: Herschel the star-gazer with light around his head, Einstein's wild hair and vast brain, Hawking's interstellar mind transcending his earthbound body. It's not just that we'eve seen then so often: Some scientists really look the part
Article Abstract:
The appearance of scientists is often scrutinized, particularly their faces, to determine whether there are some outer signs of their exceptional inner attributes. Einstein has become instantly recognizable, and such images often assume canonical status, serving to anchor a mental picture of the person at a particular point in their life. The mostly likely candidate for a new icon is Stephen Hawking whose physical infirmity, and the public perception of him as a genius, points up the traditional mind-body duality.

Detection of H(super + sub 3) in interstellar space
Article Abstract:
The H(super + sub 3) ion plays a significant role in interstellar chemistry, as it initiates the cold-gas phase reactions that determine gas cooling and gas collapse to form stars. The presence of this ion in space has been detected in the absorption spectra of two molecular clouds close to stellar objects GL2136 and W33A. The results fail to accurately determine the ion levels, but do show the amounts sufficient enough to drive reactions in the molecular clouds.
