Implications of climatic warning for conservation of native trees and shrubs in Florida

Article Abstract:

The effects of climatic warning for conservation of native trees and shrubs in Florida is studied through an example which involves six annual global warming scenarios ranging from +1degree Celsius to +2 degree Celsius and from +10 % to -20%annual precipitation on 117 native wood species in Florida. The results suggest that early detection of climatic change will be extremely helpful as it provides time for implementation of mitigation process prior to the occurrence of more serious effects on bio diversity.

Strategic habitats for biodiversity conservation in Florida

Article Abstract:

Identification of strategic habitats on private lands in Florida by using habitat-based distribution maps in combination with population conservation goals is discussed. Results reveal that strategic habitats were identified for shorebirds, four natural plant communities, and 105 globally rare plants and cover 1.65 million ha and will cost $8.2 billion to purchase and $122 million per year to manage.

Targeting ecosystem features for conservation: standing crops in the Florida Everglades

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the need to preserve the freshwater wetland ecosystems of the Florida Everglades, even though the area is not rich in biodiversity. Aspects of the wetland ecosystem examined include the effects of nutrients on standing stocks of periphyton, invertibrates, and fishes.
