The study of infectious disease is considered as a conflict in which pathogens are the enemy, to be sought out and destroyed. A need for radical new strategies in fighting infectious disease in many microbiology and immunology communities is stressed upon while it is suggested that the research agencies, universities and scientists should embrace approaches that unite microbiologists and immmonlogists in the study of infection biology.
