Iron and phosphorus co-limit nitrogen fixation in the eastern tropical North Atlantic

Article Abstract:

The study represents that community primary productivity was nitrogen-limited, and that nitrogen fixation was co-limited by iron and phosphorus. The results of the study support the hypothesis that aeolian mineral dust deposition promotes nitrogen fixation in the eastern tropical North Atlantic.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation by anammox bacteria in the Black Sea

Article Abstract:

The evidence for bacteria that anaerobically oxidize ammonium with nitrite to N2 in Black Sea is presented. These bacteria are related to members of the order Planctomycetales performing the anammox process in ammonium-removing bioreactors.

N2 production by the anammox reaction in the anoxic water column of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica

Article Abstract:

The anaerobic oxidation reaction of ammonium with nitrite is important in the anoxic waters of Golfo Dulce. This reaction is called as anammox reaction, and is a globally significant sink for oceanic nitrogen.
