Judging cruelty: no time for animals

Article Abstract:

The weight of verdicts on animal cruelty cases depends more on the animal's economic value rather than on the severity of the crime. Cruelty to a horse, for instance, is punished twice as hard as that for a similar abuse to a dog. However, positive developments in some parts of the US are noted.

Fur and bloody murder

Article Abstract:

The television program 60 Minutes showed a video footage of fur-bearing animals on Dec 8, 1991. Televiewers were outraged because the footage showed neck-breaking on a mink farm and animals caught in leghold traps.
