Kemp's conclusions

Article Abstract:

There has been a clear change in shape for the relationships between art and science, in the particular areas of old master, modernist and present. The shape could be described as analytical description, referring to a type of representation where aspects of appearance are remade based on intuitive or intellectual understandings. Artists and scientists play active roles in building mental and physical landscapes, sharing structural intuitions, and manifesting themselves in the works of innovative artists and scientists in culturally apposite forms.

Albers's abstracts

Article Abstract:

Abstract artist Josef Albers believed the science of colour cannot provide an absolute method for producing works of art but felt it could inform practice. His works focus less on theoretical prediction than practical testing through his empirical stance. Albers' painting entitled Homage to the Square is the ultimate fusion of theory and practice.
