Long-term brood division and exclusive parental care in a cooperatively breeding passerine

Article Abstract:

Most functional hypotheses assume that brood division is an adult expansion to increase reproductive success while others suggest that fledglings are responsible for brood division. The evidence presented suggest that fledglings have an active role in maintaining brood division and that brood division might be an adult adaptation to reduce the effects of sibling competition.

Stepping stones of life: natal dispersal in the group-living but noncooperative speckled warbler

Article Abstract:

The natal dispersal in the group-living speckled warbler, Chthonicola sagittata, is investigated and the habitat saturation resulting from life history traits that lead to delay dispersal are tested. The benefit of dispersal is that it provides an additional route to gaining breeding vacancy as well as they can acquire vacancies on their new territory.
