MRC rejects call for radiation tests inquiry

Article Abstract:

The Medical Research Council (MRC) of UK has not agreed to hold inquiries into the experiments conducted by it on pregnant women and dead children to study the effects of nuclear fallout on the human body. According to the deputy chief executive of MRC, David Evered, the inquiries will be very expensive and the small amounts of radiations used in the tests do not have any harmful effects. Demands for the inquiry have been made after the television documentary 'Deadly Experiments' interviewed patients who said they were not informed of the nature of the tests and have developed cancer.

Gene tests: who benefits from risk?

Article Abstract:

Debates continue on whether insurance companies should be allowed to require prospective clients to undergo genetic tests as a condition for taking out an insurance policy. Critics argue that results of genetic tests do not indicate mortality periods and question the insurance industry's ability to handle and interpret genetic data. They add that persons should not be denied insurance for conditions they are not responsible for and that the possibility of higher insurance premiums could discourage persons from taking genetic tests.

'Race and IQ' psychologist in inquiry over teaching conduct

Article Abstract:

The University of Edinburgh has initiated an inquiry into the teaching methods of psychology lecturer Chris Brand and his controversial book 'The G Factor: General Intelligence and Its Application.' The inquisition follows complaints from students on issues regarding race, gender and intelligence. Brand says that the inquiry aims at diverting public attention from the book's withdrawal by its publishers. Brand defends his relaxed teaching method.
