Male mating tactics and lethal combat in the nonpollinating fig wasp Sycoscapter australis

Article Abstract:

Research into fatal fighting in the nonpollinating fig wasp Sycoscapter australis is presented. It was found that around 25% of males sustained serious injury, and probably death, in intraspecific clashes. The risk of injury rose with the operational sex ratio.
