Maternal social status and birth sex ratio in domestic pigs: an analysis of mechanisms

Article Abstract:

A study on the effect of social status of females to the birth sex ratio of their litters shows that there is no correlation between the two. The sex ratio is not influenced by adrenal glands activity in either high-ranking or low-ranking females. There was consistency in reproductive output across the four pregnancies studied, but there was no cross-pregnancy consistency in the sex-ratio.
