Mitotic domains in the early embryo of the zebrafish
Article Abstract:
Exactly three mitotic domains, spatially separate, are found in the zebrafish's midblastula transition, and each has a distinct cycle length and rhythm. These domains appear to control the genesis of morphology, rather than to determine the fate of the cell. They do not subdivide during gastrulation, and during epiboly each plays a different role. Cells born after the 10th division, during the midblastula transition, are grouped into subsets with different functions, and these subsets have different mitotic cycle lengths.

A homeobox gene essential for zebrafish notochord development
Article Abstract:
Mutant of the homeobox gene, floating head (flh), inhibits embryonic axial mesoderm development in zebrafish. This results in the absence of notochord in the flh mutant. These observations indicate that the expression of flh gene is essential for notochord development in zebrafish. Probably the flh gene regulates cell differentiation in the organizer region. In the absence of flh+ function, the notochord precursors differentiate into muscle and not notochord.

Role of calcineurin and Mpk1 in regulating the onset of mitosis in budding yeast
Article Abstract:
Research has established that calcium plays a direct role in the biochemical control of a Weel homologue called Swel in the yeast organism Saccaromyces cerevisiae through the initiation of mitosis. The biochemicals calcineurin and Mpk1 affect transcription and post-translation in the calcium induced pathway. In vivo experiments show that calcineurin is activated by high concentrations of extracellular calcium.
