Moving towards a graphene world

Article Abstract:

Scientists have come up with a method to make large amounts of graphene sheets embedded in a polymer matrix, which results in a composite material that is strong, and electrically and thermally conducting. The electronic properties of graphene enable it to replace silicon in microchip electronics, and chemically tuned composites could be used as electrically conductive plastics in solar panels or to dissipate excess heat within computer parts.

Direct evidence of atomic defects in graphene layers

Article Abstract:

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used for visualizing the graphite network in single-walled carbon nanotubes and for determining their chiral indices. The result of the high-resolution TEM indicates the occurrence of defect formation in single graphene layers, which will assist in the engineering of properties of carbon nanostructures for specific device applications.
