Mule deer movements in response to military activity in southeast Colorado
Article Abstract:
There is already a substantial body of research which indicates that ungulates can be adversely affected by human activities such as logging, mining and recreation. Most recently, research has focused on the impact of military activity at the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site in southeastern Colorado on 71 radiocollared mule deer. It was found that deer behaviour differed in areas where manoeuvres were being carried out from areas where there was no military activity. It is possible that deer respond more intensely to unpredictable than predictable human activity.

Estimation of mule deer winter mortality from age ratios
Article Abstract:
An estimate of the overwinter survival of fawn and adult mule deer can be made by doing pre- and post-winter surveys of the population as well as age ratios of the carcasses of those that die to come up with fawn: adult ratios. While fawn survival was placed at 0.665 in 1985-1986 and 0.631 in 1988-1989, adult survival went from 0.798 in 1985-1986 to 0.908 in 1988-1989. In all three surveys, estimates of age ratios were either unbiased or have the same bias.
