The damage caused by the zebra mussel, an intruder from the Caspian and Black seas to boat motors, the water-intake systems and the ecology is detailed. The Nature ConservancyEs efforts to push for a legislation to enhance spending to combat the devastating effects of invasive species through The National Aquatic Invasive Species Act are discussed.

One for the roads

Article Abstract:

The problems posed by road construction in the ecology like habitat fragmentation and introduction of invasive plant and animal species are presented. The importance of recreating and restoring high-quality wetlands and endangered species habitats, affected by road construction is discussed.

Big hopes for the great lakes: new pact to ensure water level and quality

Article Abstract:

Although 20% of the world's surface fresh water lies in the Great Lakes several factors are still putting that bountiful water supply at risk. The Conservancy and other groups are focusing on the impact that water uses have on the natural water levels and flow.
