Neural subsystems for object knowledge
Article Abstract:
The case of K.R., a patient whose ability to process language was impaired by cerebral damage, indicates that visual-based and language-based higher-level representations are divided neurologically. Furthermore, K.R.'s condition suggests that neural subsystems are involved in processes in which knowledge of physical characteristics is separated from knowledge of other characteristics. This cognitive neurological structure accounts for K.R.'s ability to recognize the visual but not the verbal representations of physical attributes.
