New French genome centre aims to prove that bigger really is better
Article Abstract:
Genethon, a French genetics laboratory, startled human genome researchers when director Daniel Cohen announced that his facility had mapped 28% of the genome including most of chromosome 21. Cohen predicted that Genethon will have mapped 90% of the genome by the end of 1992. Cohen's innovative management of Genethon was as surprising as his results: the laboratory uses an assembly-line approach in which technicians operate prototypes of automated gene machines. In addition, Cohen is planning a companion laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a public-private consortium.

Physicist running for president is accused of distorting science to fit guru's ideas
Article Abstract:
Physicist John Hagelin, the Natural Law Party's presidential candidate, is being criticized by his scientific colleagues for twisting theories to support the teachings of guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Hagelin won prominence as a physicist for helping to conceive of the flipped SU(5) unified field theory. However, Hagelin is now claiming that this theory bears out the Maharishi's claim that transcendental meditation can ameliorate world-wide social problems.
