No sex please, we're fungi

Article Abstract:

Research into the genome structure and organization of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, the Glomales, indicates a significant degree of divergence in the ribosomal sequences of individuals. It appears that genetic drift has taken place in the absence of recombination, producing genetically divergent nuclei. There is a need for further research into DNA polymorphisms within and among spores of Glomales species from regions of DNA apart from the multi-copy ribosomal genes.

A comprehensive test-ban now, please

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom should participate in a comprehensive test ban treaty for nuclear weapons. Britain was a leading proponent of the 1963 Partial Test-Ban Treaty, yet now it holds out for its own nuclear weapons development in a world without a cold war. The recommendations of Lord Zuckerman, who contributed to the 1963 treaty success and now supports a comprehensive treaty, should be heeded by the government.

Prospects for a comprehensive test ban

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive test ban treaty for nuclear weapons should be adopted by the United Kingdom. Russia, France and the US now favor a moratorium on weapons tests but Britain is holding out for continued weapons development. This position contradicts Britain's historical role in leading the 1963 Partial Test Ban Treaty, and it also threatens the 1995 review of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
