Northern bobwhites and postfire succession
Article Abstract:
The effects of prescribed fire on northern bobwhites occupying native rangelands in Rolling Plains of Texas, U.S., are evaluated. The results have shown that increased vegetative visual obstruction adversely affected fall bobwhite population size and that prescribed fire is used in small patches in large landscape for better bobwhite densities.

Population genetics of southeastern wood ducks
Article Abstract:
Research shows statistically significant genetic structures among eight wood duck breeding populations in Texas, Louisiana, and southern Oklahoma. Genetic variation was linked to the cytochrome beta gene, with two common haplotypes found among all eight populations. Three rare haplotypes were also found.

Monitoring Texas wood ducks with a Cooperative Nest-Box Program
Article Abstract:
Eight years data from Texas Cooperative Nest Box Program initiated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, USA is analyzed as a means of involving private cooperators in statewide wood duck management. Results showed that the nest-box program is successful as a management tool for monitoring wood duck demographics.
