Nuclear pore association confers optimal expression levels for an inducible yeast gene

Article Abstract:

A study of transcriptional activation of a subtelomeric gene, hexokinase isoenzyme 1 (HXK1), by growth on a non-glucose carbon source leading to its relocalization to nuclear pores is illustrated. Activation of HXK1 by an alternative pathway based on the transactivator VP16 moved the locus away from the nuclear periphery and abrogated the normal induction of HXK1 by galactose.

An autoregulatory circuit for long-range self-organization in dictyostelium cell populations

Article Abstract:

The cyclic AMP/protein kinase A pathway show periodic signalling, but fails to organize coherent long-range wave territories, owing to the appearance of numerous spiral cores. A theoretical model suggests that autoregulation of cell excitability mediated by protein kinase A acts to optimize the number of signalling centers.

Two distinct modes of guidance signalling during collective migration of border cells

Article Abstract:

The analysis of Drosophila border cells demonstrates the presence of two distinct modes of guidance signalling during the collective migration of the border cells. The results of the study show that the collective behavior of a cell group can be easily guided by the information processing at the multicellular level.
