On improving telemetry-based survival estimation
Article Abstract:
Radiotelemetry is a major tool for assessing factors influencing survival time in free-ranging birds and mammals but telemetry-based survival estimates can be biased when sample size is small or the test is for short duration. An increased emphasis on modeling methods designed to elucidate survival determinants in complex systems combined with greater attention to basic assumptions and study design limitations is necessary if the telemetry-based survival estimation is to prove more beneficial.

Evaluation of potential factors predisposing livestock to predation by jaguars
Article Abstract:
The patterns of livestock depredation by jaguars and puma on a Brazilian ranch-wildlife reserve were examined to assess factors contributing to prey mortality. It was concluded that nonpredation causes played a large role in prey mortality.

Correlation patterns of marrow fat in Rocky Mountain elk bones
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the metatarsus bone is superior for calculating body condition of Rocky Mountain elk than the mandible. Data were obtained from bones of elk killed by vehicles and predators during the winter season.
