Parasite conservation and the black-footed ferret recovery program

Article Abstract:

Conservation efforts for the black-footed ferret should address parasite population dynamics in evaluating compatible preservation strategies for both species. While parasites can degrade a host population and have a negative image, conservation can be validated in the interests of maintaining biodiversity and natural species populations. Programs should include host-parasite interaction instead of focusing on single species.

Improving the quality of distribution models for conservation by addressing shortcomings in the field collection of training data

Article Abstract:

The article emphasizes the importance of appropriate sampling in formulating distribution models for nature conservation, as sampling is key to understanding the organism-environment interrelationships necessary for conservation planning. A systematic approach for broad coverage is advocated over random test-site selection.
