Postfire Seeding for Erosion Control: Effectiveness and Impacts on Native Plant Communities

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that seeded grasses used to prevent erosion in post-fire landscapes can displace naturalized or native species, including tree and shrub seedlings. Sterile cereal grains and native species have also been used, as well as straw mulch; more research on these methods is recommended.

Postfire Management on Forested Public Lands of the Western United States
