Quantum procrastination
Article Abstract:
Recent research has produced evidence for non-exponential decay rates of unstable systems in relation to quantum mechanics. This is a prediction of quantum mechanics which has hitherto not been observed. The new experiment which has been developed as part of this research is capable of measuring pre-exponential decay. It also makes it possible to select both the duration of the pre-exponential region and the decay rate in the exponential region. It is not yet clear whether the same approach can be used to observe the quantum Zeno effect.

Atoms that agree to differ
Article Abstract:
Researchers have been able to demonstrate entangled pairs of atoms by using a beam of rubidium atoms prepared in circular Rydberg states. In these states, the outermost electron is restricted to an effectively circular orbit. It was possible to produce an atom pair with one atom in a ground state and the other in an excited state, with no way of identifying which is which. Further research work in this area may be able to demonstrate entanglement of macroscopic objects.
