RNA-catalysed RNA polymerization using nucleoside triphosphates
Article Abstract:
An RNA synthesizes RNA using a reaction similar to the one used by protein enzymes for RNA polymerization catalysis. The ribozyme replicates RNA by successive addition of upto 6 mononucleotides when correct template RNA and nucleoside triphosphates are there. These nucleotides combine to the developing RNA chain by 3'-5'-phosphodiester linkages. The ribozyme expresses an extension of nucleotides complementary to the template to be 1,000 times more efficient than that by mismatched nucleotides.

A DNA metalloenzyme with DNA ligase activity
Article Abstract:
The single-stranded DNA behaves as a metalloenzyme for catalytic activity by not utilizing a single ribonucleotide in either the enzyme or the substrate. An in vitro selection is used to separate a DNA Zn2+/Cu2+ -dependent metalloenzyme. The condensation of the 3'-phosphorimidazolide of one oligodeoxynucleotide and 5'-hydroxyl of another oligodeoxynucleotide is catalyzed using the metalloenzyme and a new phosphodiester bond is formed.
