Rehabilitation and release of a gray whale calf: J.J.'s story

Article Abstract:

SeaWorld's Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Program offers wildlife experts the chance to learn firsthand about the problems that affect wild animals and to make the learning experience a source of knowledge for future wildlife management decisions. One such case was JJ, a female gray whale calf which was stranded on the Marina Del Rey beach. The newborn whale was suffering from dehydration, hypoglycemia and semi-coma when she was found. After 14 months of rehabilitation under the SeaWorld San Diego Marine Mammal Rescue Rehabilitation Team, she was released back into the Pacific Ocean.
