Reprogramming transcription
Article Abstract:
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation induces a typical UV response for repairing DNA damage that involves induction of gene expression in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. In one model of UV response, DNA damage produces a signal that is transmitted to the cytoplasm and stimulates signal-transduction pathway. In the other model, UV light causes oxidative stress and produces free radicals near the cell membrane. Both the pathways activates transcription factors to transcribe specific genes.

Parasitic plants indirectly regulate below-ground properties in grassland ecosystems
Article Abstract:
The parasitic plant, Rhinanthus minor in model grassland ecosystems has strong direct effects on above-ground community properties, increasing plant diversity and reducing productivity. It is also seen that these direct effects of R.minor on the plant community have marked indirect effects on below-ground properties, ultimately increasing rates of nitrogen cycling.

Transcription factor IIB acetylates itself to regulate transcription
Article Abstract:
Acetylation of the transcription factor TFIIB involves its binding to acetyl-coenzyme A and catalyses the transfer of the acetyl group onto the lysine residue K238 facilitating initiation of polymerase II transcription. Results suggest that a regulatory pathway of TFIIB acetylation links acetyl CoA with gene ranscription.
