Rival imprinting: interspecifically cross-fostered tits defend their territories against heterospecific intruders

Article Abstract:

The aggressive response towards intruders of interspecifically cross-fostered individuals and controls reared by conspecific parents is compared to test whether learning influences the recognition of sexual rivals. In this case breeding pairs of great tits and blue tits were examined which suggests that there was a species difference in the response to the conspecifics.
