Running to catch the ball
Article Abstract:
An analysis of how fielders catch cricket balls showed that success depended on keeping the formula d squared times tan alpha divided by dt squared equal to zero. Alpha means the angle of elevation between the catcher's gaze and the ball. Video tapes of catches indicated that successful fielders first pause for 1/2 second and then begin to run at a speed that keeps the formula equal to zero. Children's ability to acquire this strategy on their own proves the brain's ability to solve problems.
