Running with the buffaloes

Article Abstract:

The environmental problems caused by the swamp buffalo in the Northern Territory of Australia and efforts to control their population are discussed. The swamp buffalo was first introduced to the Northern Territory to raise them for their hides. The herds were allowed to live as feral animals living off the land and have caused destruction to the environment ever since.

Terracotta herbivores

Article Abstract:

The great mount building, grass-eating termite colonies that dominate the savannas of northern Australia develop their own specialized groups. Reproduction is handled by one or more queens, defensive behavior, is largely restricted to soldier termites, and the tasks of nest building, food gathering and waste excretion are the jobs of the worker caste.

Without a license to kill

Article Abstract:

Hunting is justified by the belief that it serves to help the community, saves the livelihood of embattled farmers and helps the ecosystem in some way. All states list illegal hunting as a problem to be tackled and studies indicate the several other species such as blue-billed bucks suffer from illegal killing.
