Sea level and volcanoes

Article Abstract:

The large volcanic eruptions cool the world ocean and thus temporarily reduce the increase in ocean heat content, while the rise in sea level is attributed to warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions. Climate-model predictions indicate that sea level would continue to rise in the coming decades and even centuries, owing to thermal expansion of the ocean in response to anthropogenic warming.

Acceleration of Greenland ice mass loss in spring 2004

Article Abstract:

A satellite gravity survey by the Gravity Recovery and Climate experiments conducted from April 2002 to April 2006 was employed to provide an independent estimate of the contribution of Greenland ice mass loss to sea level change. An ice mass loss of 248 plusmn 36 [km.sup.3][yr.sup.(-1)], equivalent to a global sea level rise of 0.5 plusmn 0.1 mm[yr.sup.-1], was detected.

Spots from rings

Article Abstract:

Dark spots or 'blemishes' in the face of the sun were recognized in the early seventeenth century. The reconstruction shows the episode of high sunspot number, which has lasted for the last 70 years, to be the most intense and of longest duration in the past 8000 years.
