Songbird and medium-sized mammal communities associated with exurban development in Pitkin County, Colorado

Article Abstract:

A research was conducted in the exurban development of Pitkin County, Colorado to understand the effects it has on ecology. It is recommended that from an ecological standpoint, it is preferable to cluster houses and leave the undeveloped areas in open space instead of having houses dispersed across the entire landscape.

Biodiversity across a rural land-use gradient

Article Abstract:

Environmental studies on a Colorado watershed region indicate that ranches play an important role in preserving animal and plant biodiversity, and implications for inclusion of private lands in ecological policymaking are discussed. A comparison of ranches to reserves and exurban developments is also included.
