Survival and cause-specific mortality of adult bobcats in central Mississippi

Article Abstract:

Accurate estimates of survival and mortality patterns are necessary to understanding the population dynamics of bobcats, but previous techniques have been limited. A new study investigates the annual and seasonal survival rates of bobcats using radio telemetry. The research, conducted in the Tallahala Wildlife Management Area, MI, occurred between 1989 and 1997. The study shows no differences between annual survival rates of males and females, although females were more likely than males to die during young-rearing periods and males were more likely than females to be hunted.
