Spatial variation in species diversity and composition of forest lepidoptera in eastern deciduous forests of North America

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that Lepidopteran community composition is incluenced by ecological differences and turnover in species richness is the same across all spatial scales. However, within-stand effects influence Simpson and Shannon diversity disproportionately, indicating local factors determine species dominance.

Choice of species-area function affects identification of hotspots

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that species-area curves can not be used for identifying hotspots of species richness. However, they are useful in assessing the richness of the hotspots identified by other methods.
