Stereotyped temporal patterns in electrical communication
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted demonstrate the existence of three modal classes of frequency modulations that differ categorically in their temporal patterning and can therefore be approximately termed displays. The relative simplicity of the electric communication displays suggests that mormyrids are an excellent model system for studying the evolution, function and mechanisms of stereotyped temporal pattern generation.

Reliability and the value of information
Article Abstract:
The theory that more beneficial the information is when correct, the lower its reliability can be degraded. The application of this theory suggests that selection for individual recognition should be stronger when the cost of misinformation (deception) is high, along with other suggestions.

Acoustic communication in a duetting grasshopper: receiver response variability, male strategies and signal design
Article Abstract:
Acoustic communication in a duetting grasshopper, Chorthippus bigutttulus, is examined. The duetting response of the female was used as a measure for the attractiveness of male songs, which consists of uninterrupted syllables separated by pauses.
