Testing time for theories

Article Abstract:

Giovanni Amelino-Camelia has made a significant contribution to the experimental quantum-gravity programme that has been taking place on a limited basis since the mid-1970s by indicating that the fuzziness of space-time is experimentally accessible. He has been able to set bounds on proposed quantum properties of space-time through the use of existing data from a particular type of gravity-wave detector. He makes a convincing argument in favour of the view that gravity-wave interferometers have exactly the right ability to probe the fuzziness of space-time.

Testing for wolf-cyote hybridization in the rocky mountains using mitochondrial DNA

Article Abstract:

Molecular genetics provides evidence of hybridization between gray wolves and coyotes in the US and Canadian Great Lakes region, but the unidirectionality of male wolf/female coyote hybridization is ill understood. A new study investigates whether similar patterns of hybridization between the two species occurs in the Rocky Mountains. The study uses mitochondrial DNA to differentiate coyote and wolf haplotypes. It is shown that all 90 wolves studied had wolf haplotypes and have not hybridized with coyotes.

The EPA's disruptive testing plan

Article Abstract:

Some 1.2 million animals are to be force-fed on 5000-87000 pesticides and industrial chemicals in the EPA's Endocrine Disrupter Screening Program to investigate the damage they may do to the endocrine system in humans.
