The DNA sequence of the human X chromosome
Article Abstract:
The analysis of human X chromosome illustrates the autosomal origin of the mammalian sex chromosomes, the stepwise process that led to the progressive loss of recombination between X and Y, and the extent of subsequent degradation of the Y chromosome. The X chromosome sequence is studied extensively to obtain a high quality annotated human genome sequence for use in studies of gene function, sequence variation, disease and evolution.

Ghost of speciation past
Article Abstract:
Riverine cichlids have given rise to flocks of highly specialized fishes in major lakes of East Africa. It further reports that in Makgadikgadi several genetically and morphologically diverse cichlids survived the drying of Lake Victoria, and has re-radiate into more than 500 species during 15,000 years since the lake refilled.

Structure-based activity prediction for an enzyme of unknown function
Article Abstract:
The function of an enzyme of unknown activity, Tm0936 from Thermotoga maritima, is predicted by docking high-energy intermediate forms of thousands of candidate metabolites. It is shown that the structure-based docking with high-energy forms of potential substrates is a useful tool to annotate enzymes for functions.
