The Rae1-Nup98 complex prevents aneuploidy by inhibiting securin degradation

Article Abstract:

Experiment are conducted to show that in mitosis timely destruction of securin by anaphasepromoting complex(APC) activity is regulated by the nucleocytoplasmic transport factors Rae1 and Nup98, also combined Rae1 and Nup98 haploinsuffiency in mice results in premature separation of sister chromatids, severe aneuploidy and ultimately degradation of securin. The results showed that Rae1 and Nup98 are temporal regulators of APC(sup Cdh1) that maintain euploidy by preventing unscheduled degradation of securin.

Autonomous regulation of the anaphase-promoting complex couples mitosis to S-phase entry

Article Abstract:

The study reports that cyclin A can begin to accumulate only after the anaphase-promoting complex (APC)-specific ubiquitinconjugating enzyme UbcH10 is degraded. It concludes that once activated in mitosis, APC therefore autonomously downregulates its activity through the ubiquitination and degradation of UbcH10.

Aneuploidy and cancer

Article Abstract:

The cause or consequence of aneuploidy, which is a condition in which a cell has extra or missing chromosomes and is often associated with tumors, is examined. The analysis has shown that, like other types of genetic instability, cancer is a potential, but not obligatory, outcome of aneuploidy.
