The Sun at small scales
Article Abstract:
Many important phenomena in the solar atmosphere are believe to occur on scales smaller than the resolution range of current solar telescopes. Theory often leads observation in certain aspects of high-resolution solar physics. Some observations have revealed localized acoustic events on the Sun, providing enough power to drive global oscillations. Adaptive optics systems are being developed, but current post facto systems of image reconstruction are providing good results, such as speckle interferometry. Phase diversity uses simultaneous pairs of images to estimate wavefront distortions.

The Evershed effect in sunspots as a siphon flow along a magnetic flux tube
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the Evershed effect is a radial gas outflow from a sunspot, with the flow acting like a siphon forced by pressure drop along a magnetic flux tube. It has previously been difficult to trace the path of the outflow beyond the outer edge of the sunspot. The siphon-flow effect can account for the higher arched flux tubes' reversed chromospheric Evershed flow and the Evershed flow that radially continues outside the sunspot along the magnetic canopy's base.

Dynamos in asymptotic-giant-branch stars as the origin of magnetic fields shaping planetary nebulae
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the strong magnetic field which can be generated by an asymptotic-giant-branch star which has a dynamo located at the interface between the envelope and core of the star.
