The alphabet of weight control
Article Abstract:
Neuropeptide Y (NPY), melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and the melanocortin-4 (MC-4) receptor gene are major players in regulating body weight. NPY mediates bodily response to starvation, while MSH and MC-4 receptor play major roles in the hypothalamus's response to obesity. Leptin, a hormone produced by adipocytes, enables the body to maintain stores of fat. Without leptin, animals become obese as they fail to stop food intake.

Foxa2 regulates lipid metabolism and ketogenesis in the liver during fasting and in diabetes
Article Abstract:
The plasma insulin inhibits the forkhead transcription factor Foxa2 in normal mice by nuclear exclusion and in the fasted state Foxa2 activates transcriptional programmes of lipid metabolism and ketogenesis. It is suggested that pharmacological intervention to inhibit phosphorylation of Foxa2 can be an effective treatment for type 2 diabetes.

Specialized hepatocyte-like cells regulate drosophila lipid metabolism
Article Abstract:
The functions of fatty acid metabolism specifically within Drosophila oenocytes were explored by generating two lethal protein-null alleles for the predicted lipid [omega]-hydroxylase encoded by Cyp4gI. When food is plentiful, oenocytes play critical roles in regulating growth, development and feeding behavior.
