The humane movement should focus on the education of mainstream youth to counteract the influence of coporations promoting products that use animals. These corporations provide schools with a variety of educational materials.

This article explains how consumerism indirectly affect animals causing harm to them. Humans who live in an industrialized society may not be able to completely avoid indirect harm to animals, but they can always try to do a little better, try a little harder, and evaluate more fully their behaviors to do less harm to animals.
