Modeling spatial variation in waterfowl band-recovery data

Article Abstract:

A Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation was used to construct bird population recovery rates for mallard duck in western and eastern US. The method's spatial correlation enables stratum-level estimates to be calculated accurately for small sample sizes.

Estimating site occupancy and abundance using indirect detection indices

Article Abstract:

An extension of the Royle and Nichols generalization of Mackenzie site-occupancy model that incorporates length of the sampling interval into the model for detection probability is described. It is suggested that the model would be using tool for determining factors that influence animal distribution and abundance.

The effect of reward band value on mid-continent mallard band reporting rates

Article Abstract:

The use of new toll-free bands dramatically increases reporting rates, and an attempt is made to evaluate the effect of reward band on reporting rate. Results indicated a rapid increase in the reporting rate of bands as a function of dollar value.
