Effect of edge structure on the flux of species into forest interiors

Article Abstract:

Focus on the arrival of potential outsider seeds in to a community and a spatially explicit approach is used to quantify the flow of seeds from the surrounding landscape in to the interior of a forest. Results demonstrate that an intact forest edge can function as a physical barrier to the flux of wind-dispersed seed from the surrounding landscape into the forest interior.

The ecological consequences of logging in the burned forests of East Kalimantan, Indonesia

Article Abstract:

A study was done in the burned forests of East Kalimantan, Indonesia to understand the ecological consequences of logging. The results indicate that the maintenance of a productive permanent forest estate is likely to be served best by avoiding logging activities in burned areas.
