Article Abstract:
Quasi-particles, an ingenious dodge used to simplify calculation on vast systems of interacting particles, seem to account for the fractional Quantum Hall Effect. This arises in a situation when electrons, constrained to move in a plane are exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field.

The living Earth
Article Abstract:
The prevailing thoughts on the idea of a live Earth, originally declared by Isaac Newton, are discussed. These thoughts led to the creation of Gaia, a hypothesis that human organisms regulate the atmosphere in their own interest.
