Travelling waves in vole population dynamics
Article Abstract:
Research shows that there are travelling waves in the dynamics of vole populations. Voles are widely monitored due to the widespread damage they can cause, with the subsequent long-term data useful for identifying the moving epicentre of vole plagues and spatial autocorrelation. Studies of vole populations in Finland show that their cyclic dynamics matched the damage peaks of affected forestry districts. Studies in France also showed a correlation between the geographical level of damage and the latitude of the annual area of the mass center.

Spatial synchronization of vole population dynamics by predatory birds
Article Abstract:
Research into the spatial synchronization of northern root vole populations is presented. The synchronizing mechanism seems to be bird predation, and there is a negative feedback loop between predation and the growth of the prey population.

Life-history traits of voles in a fluctuating population respond to the immediate environment
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the use of a field transplant experiment to investigate the influence of the immediate environment on the life-history characteristics of a vole population. Life-history variation is discussed.
