A developmental model for thalidomide defects
Article Abstract:
Women who took the drug thalidomide when they were pregnant often gave birth to children with a severe shortening of the limbs, known as phocomelia. A new model seeks to provide an understanding of why growth decreases in the limb-bud mesenchyme should lead to specific losses of proximal limb elements. The progress-zone model for thalidomide teratology is presented.
