Why poor logging practices persist in the tropics
Article Abstract:
The environmental damages and the financial costs of logging can be reduced substantially by training workers, pre-planning skid trails, practicing directional felling, and carrying out other well-known forestry practices. The main reason for poor logging practices is widely heralded as cost savings associated with reduced-impact logging relative to unplanned logging by untrained crews.

Seed removal and fate in two selectively logged lowland forests with constrasting protection levels
Article Abstract:
The seed removal by terrestrial mammals and the fate of removed, threaded seeds in two neighboring tropical rain forest sites in the Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica is evaluated. The higher rate of seed removal and seed dispersal of specific species is predicted.

Mitigation human effects on European biodiversity through traditional animal husbandry
Article Abstract:
Livestock grazing and mowing have made possible conservation of many species threatened by human overkill. Suppression of natural disturbances, and ending traditional animal husbandry can cause adverse biodiversity effects.
