The excitement of first discovery: South Abydos 1899-1903

Article Abstract:

An expedition to South Abydos, the site of mortuary complex of Senwosret III, undertaken by early explorers and architects David Randall-Maciver, Arthur E.P.B., Weigall, and Charles T. Currelly between 1899 and 1903 is described. Modern archaeologists feel a sense of collaboration with their predecessors, who provide them with the basis of their own studies, although the remains of their hasty excavations often hinder modern investigations.
