Archaeology in Israel

Article Abstract:

A new set of regulations are expected to change the way archeological research in Israel is being conducted. Israel Antiquities Authority Dir. Amir Drori has issued new policy that encourages the publication of past excavations while the Palestinian Dept. of Antiquities has allowed excavations to be conducted at Jericho. However, the most significant ruling is that issued by Michael Ben-Yair, Attorney Gen. of the State of Israel, which forbids excavation of human remains younger than 5,000 years old. A list of recent publications about excavations in Israel is presented.

Archaeology in Israel

Article Abstract:

Archaeological projects in Israel are conducted by foreign institutions, universities and the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Of the three agents, the IAA has suffered most from the economic decline experienced by the country. In terms of recruiting volunteers for the excavations, the field has not been affected negatively by the security restrictions imposed by the government on the tourist trade.
