Early church at Aqaba

Article Abstract:

Remains of the oldest known structure used as a Christian church have been uncovered at Aqaba, Jordan. The walls date to the late third or early fourth century. Analysis shows the basilica had a central nave with side aisles, and an entrance oriented to the east. Some earlier structures were used as churches, but were originally built for other purposes. In use for less than a century, the church may have been destroyed by an earthquake.
