Article Abstract:

This article discusses archaeological research conducted in the steppe region of Kalmykia, Russia with a focus to uncover information regarding the activities of ancient herders. The author explores the Ymnaya culture, which developed during the 3rd millennium, through analysis of burial mounds and finds evidence of long-distance trade and social interaction from regions to the north and south.

Forest hunters of Eurasia

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the economy of the Volosovo culture which existed from 2500-1800 BC in the forest zone of central Eurasia. The author, analyzing data from archaeological excavations, maintains the Volosovo culture had a very sophisticated economy based on farming and herding, and argues their technology demonstrates an interconnection between steppe, forest, and sea.

Historic glass from Block 49, a Mormon site in the Salt Lake Valley

Article Abstract:

Glass found in an archeological dig in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah found evidence that early Mormons did not follow the current restrictions on drinking alcohol. Some glass remains seemed to have held patent medicines but the finishes of some were consistent with those used in champagne and brandy bottles.
